Thinking About Adopting a Dog?
Thank you for considering a dog from the Ottawa Humane Society. This website allows a tremendous number of people to quickly and easily see the dogs that the OHS has available for adoption. As a result, most dogs are adopted very quickly - most within 2 days. Popular breed types and puppies are usually adopted within hours of becoming available.
Our goal is to find the best possible home for each dog. Some dogs may not be suitable for every person or family, and in the interest of both dogs and adopters, we reserve the right to select the most appropriate home. Please read the behavior descriptions carefully to ensure that a dog is a good match for you.
Other adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis.
To ensure the best possible match, the OHS asks that all members of the family — both human and animal — be present for the adoption visit. For a $25 deposit the Adoption Centre can provide a 24-hour hold after you have completed an adoption questionnaire, to give you an opportunity to bring everyone together.
Our staff can provide some information by telephone, but please be aware that the OHS receives over 450 calls a day, and while we make every effort to return calls quickly, existing resources do not allow us to ensure that every call is returned in less than 24 hours.
The OHS maintains request files for people seeking a specific breed or if there isn't an appropriate match on the day you come in. For more information see Pet Request Program information.
For more information about OHS adoptions, please see our adoption page, email us or call our Adoption Centre at 613-725-3166 ext. 258.
Thank you for your interest in our wonderful dogs!
