Bow Meow Blackjack Bonanza Raises over $10,000

LolaVicki and John McWhinnie each had a challenge. She wanted to put on an event to raise funds for the OHS Breaking Ground Building Campaign and he wanted to throw a party to launch his new book on Blackjack. The solution? Combine the two! The Bow Meow Blackjack Bonanza took place on April 16th and raised over $10,000 for the campaign. The event featured entertainment by Elvis tribute artist Paul Anthony, a silent auction, door prizes, blackjack tutorials and a blackjack tournament. Vicki and John have named two banks of cat kennels in the new building in honour of their companion cat, Lola.

Three-Season Cat Porch
The 3 season cat porch

Everyone at the OHS is excited to be nearing the end of the construction of our new facility. Five years of planning is finally paying off, as the OHS is set to take possession of this functional and beautiful new shelter. As the possession date approaches, and in the midst of juggling hundreds of final details, the team daydreams about finally leaving our severely overcrowded and out-of-date building. The big winners of course will be the animals, but the whole community, and especially those that helped to build the shelter, should be proud of the promising new future that this facility will help to create.

Check our website at www.ottawahumane.ca for details of opening dates for various services in the new location on West Hunt Club.
