Architects Deliver Floor Plan
After a number of iterations, and a great deal of research and consultation, specialist architect George Myers, local architect Barry Hobin and Associates and OHS staff have confirmed the floor plan or "schematic" for the new facility. This portion of the planning is extremely important as it establishes all the elements in the new facility and how they will work together for an efficient, healthy and functional building. Next steps will be the architect's drawings and detailed costing that will be used to tender the construction contract. Watch for the plan, which will be coming soon to our campaign website!

New Naming Opportunities Available!
Now that the floor plan is essentially completed, the OHS is able to release new naming opportunities in the new shelter. The previous list was based on early planning – some aspects of which have changed or expanded as the planning process has unfolded.
The greatly expanded list now includes opportunities at the $5,000 level. Since pledges can be fulfilled over five years, naming is affordable for a greater number of donors. Check out the new list, help us build a brighter future for Ottawa's animals and ensure your legacy by naming a portion of the new shelter. Please contact Anna Silverman at 613-725-3166 ext. 279 or annas@ottawahumane.ca for more information or to make your naming selection. |

A Couple that Cares
Robin Coates and her fiancé Jim Everts celebrated their hope for a bright future by helping to build one for the animals. The couple, both OHS supporters and volunteers, decided to direct their wedding gifts to their favourite charity – the OHS and its Breaking Ground Building Campaign. Having spent time at the Champagne Avenue shelter, Robin is keenly aware of the need. “Ottawa desperately needs a new shelter for its animals. It’s long overdue and we wanted to do our part to make it happen. We have adopted three cats and a dog from the OHS and want to make sure that future animals can find care and new homes as they did.” |

Veterinary Community Coming on Board
More and more local veterinary practices are coming on board in support of the campaign. To date, eight have made their commitment to the future through a pledge to the campaign and several others are considering their gifts. Practices have each developed a mix of activities to fulfil their pledge: direct gifts from veterinarians and staff, in-house fundraising activities and memorial gifts to the campaign made in honour of doggy and kitty patients have proven to be a winning combination. Watch for campaign stickers on your veterinarian's door as a sign that he or she is participating! |

CUPE 503 Concert Redux

Last year's Trooper concert — hosted by CUPE Local 503, in partnership with CUPE 4000 and CUPE Ontario — was a tremendous success – both to highlight the importance of public services in Ottawa and to help build a brighter future for the animals. The union, which represents OHS staff, has announced a repeat engagement on Saturday, October 17 at Lansdowne Park. This year's headliner will be David Wilcox, joined by openers the Cooper Brothers. The concert is free, so come out with a gift to the campaign and help the OHS build a brighter future for Ottawa's animals.

Last year's concert raised over $6,000 toward a brighter future for Ottawa's animals!
