Ground breaking — part two

Breaking Ground Ceremony
OHS board of directors at the recent ground breaking ceremony.

Last month we reported on the ceremonial groundbreaking for the new facility. Everyone in attendance was very happy and excited to see this project finally get underway. Among the happiest was OHS Executive Director, Bruce Roney, who was included as one of the speakers at the event.

Bruce talked about the research and planning that has gone into the project over the last five years in order to get this far. "This project has been an act of faith from the beginning — faith that the community would care enough about its animals to finally take them from the conditions of our crumbling 40-year-old facility, and give them a new home." He continued, "This project continues to be an act of faith, because, though we have done well, not all of the funds are yet in place. We still need our community to step up and pledge to a brighter future."

The campaign isn't over, and the animals still need your help. Visit www.breakingground.ca today for information about making your gift.

Work begins
Work Begins
With the ceremonial ground breaking completed, the actual work of building the new shelter has begun. To date, most of the work has been excavation and spreading and compacting fill. The facility will be built on a concrete pad, and so getting this part of the project right is extremely important.

Building a brighter — and sweeter — future
Cookies

The Cake Shop, on 250 Greenbank Road in Ottawa's west end, is finding sweet ways to build a brighter future for Ottawa's animals. In addition to working to get pledges for the campaign, owner Nadine Lemay-Hecht is selling three types of cupcakes at the shop, with all proceeds going to the campaign. The shop is also selling "puppy paws" in aid of the animals and has a coin box on site!

Cakeshop

Also to support the campaign, the Cake Shop created cookies with the Breaking Ground logo which were served to guests at our recent ceremonial ground breaking.

Be sure to visit the Cake Shop for your treats and help them build a brighter future for the animals. If your business would like to help the campaign, please call Jessie-Lee at 613-725-3166, ext. 254.
