Humane Education
Humane Education examines the relationship between human and non-human animals, recognizing that we share many physical and emotional needs. It develops attitudes of kindness, sensitivity, appreciation and responsibility in children and adults toward all living creatures. Knowledge of humane education concepts will provide individuals with the capacity for responsible and humane decision making.
Why Teach Humane Education in the Classroom?
Humane Education explores something that all kids love - animals!
The OHS's Humane Education program:
- emphasizes character education by promoting respect and empathy toward people, animals and the environment;
- assists children in developing compassion, a sense of justice and a respect for the value of all living creatures;
- provides the knowledge and understanding necessary for children to resolve conflict situations and make responsible choices;
- fosters a sense of responsibility on the part of children to make choices and act upon their personal beliefs.
