Carling Animal Hospital
The wonderful group of staff at the Carling Animal Hospital hosted a fundraiser by asking for donations in exchange for awesome poop bags and raised over $168! Wow! This is will allow the OHS to care for so many of Ottawa’s animals in need – and maybe even buy a few poop bags! Thank you Carling Animal Hospital!
Isabella A. and her friends celebrated her birthday at the OHS and brought in a ton of awesome supplies for the animals in the shelter! Way a great way to give back to the animals on your special day! The cats are loving their new toys already – thanks Isabella!
Rachel P. raised $110 in lieu of gifts for herself while celebrating her seventh birthday at the OHS! What a wonderful way to share your special day, Rachel! The animals, staff and volunteers at the OHS hope you had a paw-sitively purr-fect birthday!
Selena S. is an incredible young lady. Selena, just age nine, wrote and self-published a book last summer titled “A Bed A Buck A Buddy; Cici’s Amazing Birthday”. She wanted to write a book to inspire other children to help animals in shelters and 50 per cent of the money she gets from the sales of her book go to local animal organizations. Selena was kind enough to bring copies of her book to the OHS and make a generous donation to the animals in our care, even though she lives all the way in Florida! Wow – what hero to the animals!
Little Allegra G. might be just two years old but this young lady is already learning the importance of giving back to her community. This youngster celebrated her special day by hosting a cat themed birthday party! She brought in a donation for $50 AND in-kind gifts of food and toys for the kitties at the OHS. We think this is a purrrr-fect way to celebrate your birthday, Allegra!
Mr. Dave Beach
Mr. Dave Beach has been a long-time supporter of the animals at the OHS and has even adopted 3 amazing dogs from here in his lifetime! Mr. Beach celebrated his most recent birthday by asking his friends and family to donate to a cause close to his heart – the OHS! These friends and family helped make Mr. Beach’s birthday extra special… to the tune of $297! Wow! From all the animals in our care… thank you and happy birthday Dave!
Soloway Wright LLP Barristers & Solicitors
How do lawyers like to let loose? The ones from Soloway Wright do it by giving back to charity! These amazing coworkers chose the OHS to be their recipient charity of choice for the month of September and generously donated $198.00 to Ottawa’s animals in need! Way to go Soloway Wright LLP!
Sarah & Lauren S.
Twin sisters Sarah and Lauren S. celebrated their ninth birthdays in early October and asked for donations to the animals in the care of the OHS in lieu of gifts for themselves. What a generous way to turn nine, ladies! We want to wish you an extra special birthday from everyone here at the OHS – furry and human!
Ms. Mary-Jean Harris knows a way to really leave her mark with Ottawa’s animals – this wonderful woman collects and returns empty ink cartridges and donated the money raised to the OHS. Big thanks go out to Mary-Jean! What a creative way to fundraise for Ottawa’s animals!
Mateo M. served up a tall, cool glass of giving back to Ottawa’s animals! This amazing young man held a lemonade stand in support of the OHS and raised a HUGE $50! Lemonade tastes great but it tastes even better when it’s for a good cause! Way to go Mateo!
Ms. Darin A. celebrated a very special birthday this month and instead of making it all about her, she choose to share her celebration with Ottawa’s animals in need. This amazing young lady asked for donations in lieu of birthday presents and donated a whopping $100 to the OHS. From all of animals (and humans!) at the OHS we say… thank you and happy birthday Darin!
Starbucks at 330 West Huntclub Road
The lovely ladies from the Starbucks across the street from the shelter brought over three trays of coffees for staff to give us a boost to get through the rest of our day. Local Businesses supporting local charities. Heartwarming when people remember to thank staff!
Think you can’t combine staying fit with helping Ottawa’s animals? Think again! Orangetheory Fitness hosted fitness classes by donation and raised $1,087 for the OHS. They also collected pet food and wish list items.
Ladies’ Day & Ladies’ Night Gals from the Cassleview Golf Club
Every Wednesday at the Cassleview Golf Club they host a Ladies’ Night where they hold a 50/50 draw and this past month these wonderful ladies chose the animals of the Ottawa Humane Society as the recipients of the funds raised. These generous women made sure that Ottawa’s animals are the real winners!
Emily B., age 9, raised just under $30 for the animals in the care of the Ottawa Humane Society by holding a bake/toy sale last month. She worked hard to help Ottawa’s animals and for that we say “Thank You!” Emily!
Georgia & Becky F.
Georgia & Becky F., age 12 and 9 respectively, sure know how to make things sweet for Ottawa’s animals! These two amazing young ladies held a bake sale and raised a whopping $25 to help the animals in the care of the Ottawa Humane Society. Helping animals is the sweetest treat of all!
How do you celebrate turning another year older? Gregory Merrit celebrated by donating $200 to the animals at the Ottawa Humane Society! This generous birthday boy was the one giving gifts on his special day – the gift of life to Ottawa’s homeless, injured, abused and neglected animals.
How to you quench your thirst for helping Ottawa’s animals? Lydia H., age 11, served up a tall glass of giving back to Ottawa’s animals by holding a lemonade stand in support of the Ottawa Humane Society. She also held a toy sale to go along with her lemonade stand to double her fundraising efforts to the tune of $42.50!
Sidney G. celebrated her 5th birthday in a very special way – by asking for donations to the animals at the OHS in lieu of birthday presents! A very special “Thank you!” and “Happy Birthday” from everyone at the OHS go out to this generous young lady!
Addisyn C., age 6 and seen here with brother Bryson, held a lemonade stand at the end of the summer to help raise funds in support of animals just like this adorable puppy Theo. Addisyn must have had the right recipe – her lemonade stand raised over $50 for Ottawa’s animals! Way to go Addisyn!
Caring about Ottawa’s animals can be romantic – just ask Lisa Spencer and her hubby-to-be who decided to host an OHS collection box at their wedding this summer. Don’t call it puppy love, these two love-birds found their “forever home” in each other and celebrated their union by raising funds to help find forever homes for the animals at the OHS. Congrats Lisa & hubby!
Zach D. turned 12 in September and chose to ask for donations to the animals in the care of the Ottawa Humane Society in lieu of gifts for himself. Wow – what a generous way to celebrate your birthday, Zach! From everyone at the OHS we want to wish you a special “Happy Birthday” and send you a big “Thank You!”
Samantha M. just celebrated her 6th birthday at the OHS with all of her friends! Thank you so much Samantha for donating blankets and supplies for the animals at the shelter – you truly are a humane hero!
Jane Kelly knows a office that plays together, stays together – and what could be more fun than an Amazing race style fundraiser for the whole gang? This amazing group of coworkers donated funds and food for the animals at the OHS and had a blast doing it! We think you’re AMAZING!
Sophie C. just celebrated her 9th birthday at the OHS and collected $67.30 in donations for the animals in lieu of gifts for herself. A big “thank you!” goes out to this amazing young lady from all staff and animals at the shelter – keep up the great work! You rock!
Brysen V., age 10, and Keeley P., age 11, held a lemonade stand at their campground this summer. They had the generous idea of donating half the proceeds to the animals in the care of the OHS and boy are we glad they did because these two amazing kids raised $70! They wrote this wonderful letter (see attached photo) to explain why they donated and we just want to write a short note back to say “Thank You!” because without wonderful donors like YOU there would be no us!
Big thanks go out to Norah R., age 10, who baked cookies, cupcakes and brownies and sold them to her community to raise funds in support of the animals at the OHS. Norah, seen here with OHS pooch Mia, raised over $30 for animals in need! We think this little girl is even sweeter than the items she baked!
Lisa R. & Holly R. and the parents, teachers and students of Sir Winston Churchill Public School
The OHS sends a special “thank you!” to the Lisa R. and Holly R., both age 9, and the wonderful parents, teachers and students from Sir Winston Churchill Public School who so generously donated over $90 to Ottawa’s animals in need.
There’s no better way to quench your thirst than a refreshing glass of lemonade, but it tastes even better when you know it’s helping Ottawa’s animals. Addison V. has been serving these glasses of goodness at her annual charity lemonade stand for over five years, donating over $1200 to the OHS in her lifetime! Wow! A special “Thank You!” goes out to Addison, now age seven and seen here with OHS kitty Peter, who has been an OHS supporter since she was just two years old! Way to go Addison!
Hanna Stewart & the campers from the Old Ottawa South Community Centre Girls Only Camp
Camp councillors can inspire their campers to do some amazing things and that’s exactly what Hanna Stewart, camp councillor at the Girls Only Camp at the Old Ottawa South Community Centre, did this summer. She helped her campers organize a fundraiser bake sale and they chose to donate the entire proceeds, over $183, to the animals in the care of the OHS!
Very special young ladies Ceilidh and Isla C, seen here with former OHS resident Paddington, held a lemonade stand over the summer and raised an amazing $17 in support of Ottawa’s animals in need! Way to go, girls!
What’s the best way to celebrate your 7th birthday? Théo C.-N. thinks helping save Ottawa’s animals is the best gift of all, that’s why he so generously asked for donations to the OHS in lieu of birthday presents for his special day. This young man has now done this two years in a row, raising over $65 from this birthday alone! Way to go Theo and “Happy Birthday” from all your four-legged and 2-legged friends at the OHS!

Jordan A., seen here with brother Jonathan and OHS resident Beauty the cat, selflessly asked for donations to the OHS in lieu of birthday presents for her 14th birthday. This generous act raised a whopping $50 for the animals in the care of the OHS. Big thanks and “Happy Birthday” go out to Jordan from everyone at the OHS!
