Peko is an adorable two-month-old Jack Russell terrier/Chihuahua-mix puppy who was the victim of rough play by a larger dog. His eye was so severely damaged in the scuffle that it needed to be surgically removed.

Peko’s owner was unable to afford the cost of surgery and treatment, and decided to surrender the puppy to the OHS, where he was able to receive the help he needed. The OHS veterinarian performed surgery to remove Peko’s right eye and, despite his injury and pain, he responded quickly.

Brave Peko was on medication and under the watchful eye of the OHS clinic, but not for long. He recovered quickly and was adopted into a loving forever home.

To help reduce their fear and stress and allow cats to engage in their natural behaviours, the OHS provides enrichment to each cat with a Hide and Perch box so it has a safe retreat to go to when it feels stressed, and can perch on top to see what is going on. The box goes home with the cat upon adoption to ease transition to the new home.

One Hide and Perch box will provide a cat safety, security, and a calm stay at the OHS, helping to ensure a new life in a loving home.

Mark your calendars! The eighth annual OHS FurBall gala will be held on Saturday, March 24th, 2012.

Tickets are $300 each with corporate tables of 10 for $3,500.  Last year’s event sold out, so order early to ensure that you and your guests will have a seat at a one of Ottawa’s must-attend events!
