LATEST ANIMAL CRUELTY LEGISLATION NOT GOOD ENOUGH |
 |
The
Ottawa Humane Society, along with the Canadian Federation of
Humane Societies, strongly opposes Bill S-213, a new private
member’s bill to amend the animal cruelty section of the Criminal
Code.

more about inadequacies of the bill that was put forward in April, click here.

Each year
the OHS takes hundreds of calls about dogs left in vehicles on hot
summer days. When the thermometer soars, a parked car can quickly
become a furnace, endangering an animal’s life, and making the
owner liable to criminal charges.
For more
tips on how to help an animal in distress, or how to keep your own
pet cool this summer, click here.

Get ready
to don your running shoes and stroll through the Arboretum in
support of this year’s Iams Wiggle Waggle Walkathon on Sunday,
September 10th. Funds raised will go to support initiatives like
Emergency Animal Protection Services.
For more information on how to register and collect pledges online, or to download pledge sheets, visit our Wiggle Waggle
Walkathon information website!

Last
year, only 4% of cats, and 54% of dogs at the OHS were claimed by
their owners. Those are pretty dismal statistics, but the numbers
could be improved with better microchip awareness and usage.
Microchips are a permanent form of animal identification
that allows for the rapid return of a lost pet. A simple scan
could save your pet’s life, and save you a lot of
worry.

more about microchipping, or the next microchip clinic on
September 17th, click here.
