Keep Animals in this Election |
|
The Ottawa Humane Society was suspended from enforcing animal cruelty legislation by the Ontario SPCA because the OHS and others opposed OSPCA actions to make themselves unaccountable. The result is that Ottawa has no locally-managed service for investigations, and availability of service has been cut drastically. The OSPCA has no meaningful oversight. Funding for animal cruelty investigations across the province still falls significantly short.
If you are concerned about animal cruelty and neglect, please keep this issue at the front of our local candidates’ minds.
Please consider asking questions of your candidates:
If elected:
- What steps will you take to ensure that Ontario’s animal cruelty law is enforced locally?
- Will you support full funding for enforcing animal cruelty legislation?
- How will you ensure that the Ontario SPCA is transparent and accountable in the future?

What greater gift than the love of a cat? (The love of a kitten…) Charles Dickens |
Few can resist an adorable, fluffy, little kitten. Their innocent eyes and plaintive cries melt our hearts and urge us to protect them. With kitten season upon us, the OHS needs your help. Over the summer and fall months, we’re looking for 40 homes to welcome litters of unwanted and orphaned kittens, their nursing moms and our older and special needs cats. If you already know what the love of a cat (and kitten) means, or, if you want to discover it, consider becoming a Purrrfect Pairing virtual foster.

Buddy & Belle: Mika |
There are no photos of this sweet seven-year-old setter-mix dog when she arrived at the OHS, but her appearance would have broken your heart. Read of Mika's journey to healing, and how you can donate to her medical care.

OHS Garden Party Raises More Than $95,000 for Ottawa’s Animals |
The 2018 OHS Garden Party was a huge success, thanks to YOU! OHS supporters helped raise more than $95,000 to rehabilitate, reunite and rehome Ottawa’s animals.
A HUGE thank you to all our sponsors, chefs, mixologists, auction donors and guests — without your support, none of this would have been possible. To view some special moments from this spectacular night, check out our event photo album.
Couldn’t make it out to the event – no worries! Our 2018 Wiggle Waggle Walk & Run is right around the corner! We look forward to seeing you at this next big event in support of Ottawa animals!
