Wiggle Waggle Walkathon
line

We're proud to announce that Rinaldo Hair Designers and Rinaldo Spa will be an integral part of this year's Wiggle Waggle Walkathon. As Honorary Chairperson, Pat Rinaldo and Rinaldo Canonico will be leading the preparations to make this year's walkathon bigger and better than ever. They won't be starting out alone; CoCo and Chanel will be on hand to lead the way and make it a family affair!

"The Humane Society of Ottawa-Carleton provides a vital service for the animals in this community", says Rinaldo Canonico. "As animal lovers and pet owners and as a business person, we are proud of our role as Honorary Chairs for this year's event by setting an example and making a difference in the lives of both animals and humans. The Wiggle Waggle Walkathon is a fun, creative way of raising money for a worthy cause."

Pat and Rinaldo, proprietors of Rinaldo Hair Designers and Spa (located in the World Exchange Plaza) have been leaders in the Ottawa business scene for over thirty years, providing a luxurious escape right in the centre of Ottawa. As you walk through the doors you shed your worries and concerns, and begin to unwind. Drop in and be enticed by the serenity, but don't be surprised if you see CoCo and Chanel there too. Everyone needs an escape from your daily grind, including our animals.

Don't forget to sign up for the Wiggle Waggle Walkathon! Leave the daily routine at home on September 12th and spend some great quality time with your family and four-legged friends. CoCo and Chanel will be leading the pack!

Great Prizes! Great Fun!

At this year's walkathon there will be a "Grand Prize Draw". The lucky winner will win a return trip (air only) for two (2) persons from Ottawa to any one destination in Canada, served by Canadian Airlines. (Note: All travel must be complete by September 12, 2000. Some restrictions will apply and these pass tickets are not valid on any code-share flights.) Every registered walker will be eligible for the draw receiving one chance for the first $100 in pledges collected and one additional chance for every subsequent $50 in pledges (a minimum $100 in pledges is required to enter the draw).

Also, this year we have a "Team Prize". The team, consisting of 4 colleagues, who cumulatively bring in the highest dollar amount in pledges, will win a catered cold lunch for 10 persons from the Foodery. To be eligible for this prize, all four (4) persons on the team must bring their pledge forms in at the same time when registering at the event or at pre-registration.

Note: Entrants for both the Grand Prize Draw and the Team Group prize are still eligible or all other prizes.

"Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love, faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made."

Submitted by June Woolesy, Co-ordinator of the PAL Program

PAL Program...A Proven Success
The PAL Program was launched in 1994 with the help of the Little Farm Pet Centres and their owner Isla Turner. Between 1994 and 1996 the Little Farm Pet Centre outlets placed approximately 1200 animals into new homes. With their help we were off to a great start!

In 1996, SuperPet joined our program. Unfortunately also in 1996 one of the Little Farm Pet Centres closed and another left the program. However after this little set back we are back on track and now have five stores involved in the PAL program. In 1998 the two PetsMart stores in the Ottawa-Carleton area joined our ranks. Since 1994, 4500 animals have been adopted through the PAL program.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Little Farm Pet Centre and the PetPatch locations for their continued support. A special thank you to SuperPet for helping us place our large breed dogs up for adoption and for also helping us out with our cat adoptions.

Thank you also to the PetsMart locations for their participation in the PAL Program and for holding our first ever Adopt-A-Thon this year. We placed twenty-six animals into new homes through this event.

We can all look back on the last couple of years and feel very proud of what we have accomplished. I know the coming year will bring the PAL Program even more success!

PAL Outlets and locations:
Little Farm Pet Center - Rideau Center
PetPatch - Herongate Mall
SuperPet - Emerald Plaza and Merivale Rd.
PetsMart - Innes Road
PetsMart - Merivale/Hunt Club

To the Nice People at the HSOC

My sister and I were adopted on July 3rd by our new mom and dad. We wanted to say thank you to everyone at the Humane Society who took care of us during our stay. We really like our new home, especially the curtains and stereo wires (mon is going to get us new ones!).

We had our first trip to Dr. Ringleberg at the animal hospital and he said we were just fine! (But we really didn't like that thermometer!) We are ten weeks old now and almost doubled our size.

Please say hi to all our friends there and thanks again!!

Love,
Lil Jay and Bug
