OHS Position Statement: Indoor Cats
In addition to the position on domestic companion animals, recognizing the many risks to cats when outdoors unsupervised, the Ottawa Humane Society strongly recommends that cats be kept indoors. If allowed outdoors, cats should be in a securely enclosed area or supervised on a harness. The OHS firmly believes in the education of the public to the benefits of keeping cats indoors, not the least of which are better health and a much longer life expectancy. The OHS supports the creation and enforcement of municipal bylaws to discourage owners from allowing their cats to roam outdoors unsupervised.
