Spring has Sprung

Dog in a meadow

Spring warmth came a bit early this year. The warmth and longer days, along with the lifting of most of the restrictions we have been living under for the last two years, have felt like a return to life.

There’s certainly more life here at the Ottawa Humane Society. Not only the increasing number of animals in our care, but an increasing number of people are buzzing around the building as well. Most volunteers have returned to their duties. I’m enjoying the smiles of adopters and visitors wandering around the adoption centre freely for the first time in a long while.

Our first March break camp in two years brought the laughter and excitement of children into the building. Many of our in-person programs — dog training, tours, microchip clinics — have returned after being on hold for so very long. The return of these programs and services has meant more pets and their people are bringing their vibrant energy to the OHS.

It feels good; and after all, a return to life is what a humane society is all about.
