Ottawa Humane Society Auxiliary
The Auxiliary has worked hard over the past year at our various fundraising events - the 2009 Blooms & Berries, craft and garage sales, and various other activities. Our efforts resulted in a donation of $24,000 to the OHS at the Annual General Meeting held on June 22, 2010.
Our third annual "Blooms & Berries" was held on June 6, 2010 at the Glebe Community Centre. This year, in addition to sales of crafts, plants, baking, and books, our speaker, Jeanne Dagley Lush, entertained and informed our guests on the many aspects of herbal gardening. This event brought in over $2,400 for the Society.
We are in the process of planning the 4th annual edition of Blooms & Berries to be held in the spring of 2011. Information on our speaker and other details will be announced on our page at ottawahumane.ca as the time gets closer.
2010 Garage Sales
The Auxiliary will be holding garage sales throughout the spring and summer in various parts of Ottawa. To date, the scheduled sales are as follows:
| June 26, 9 a.m. | 941 Walkley Road, Ottawa |
| August 21, 9 a.m. | 603 Gainsborough Avenue, Ottawa |
We have lots of great items for sale. No donations please.
Background
The Auxiliary was formed in 1949. Our mandate is to support the Society, and to raise funds for the animals in their care. Throughout the past 60 years, the funds have supported fostering, adoption, medicines, food and equipment - whatever is needed to care for the animals. Currently, the money we raise goes towards the new shelter which is desperately needed to care for an ever increasing number of animals.
We continue to achieve this mandate with our annual "Blooms & Berries" event, our active craft group, garage sales, etc. We also assist the Society at many of their events by volunteering to help in various capacities.
Auxiliary Meetings
The Auxiliary meets at 1:30 on the SECOND Thursday of the month (expcept July and August) at Parkdale United Church, 429 Parkdale Avenue (between Gladstone Avenue and Wellington Street). We meet in the Ladies Parlour on the second floor. For those requiring assistance, there is a ramp on the Gladstone Avenue side (ring the door bell) and a lift available. Ample parking can be found at the rear of the church.
From time to time, after the business portion of our meeting is completed, we have a speaker on an animal-related topic. We finish by socializing over tea and goodies.
All are welcome. Please join us!
