Our dog walking program is popular, but it's also very challenging! As a dog walker, you are expected to walk in all kinds of inclement weather, whether it's 30 below or raining - the dogs need to get out!

Must haves for dog walking:

  • Dog walkers must be able to lift at least 40 pounds and must have experience handling large dogs that have little or no basic training.
  • Our dog walkers must have had some obedience training in their lives before to be able to dog walk  This enables dog walkers to teach basic obedience to our dogs before they are adopted and ensures that they have a better chance of remaining in their new homes.
  • Dog walkers with experience with halties and gentle leaders are preferred.

Time Commitment

  • Dog walkers are asked to commit to a consistent schedule for a minimum of one year
  • Dog walkers are expected to walk a minimum of two hours weekly

*** Dog Walking volunteers must attend a General Orientation session and then a separate Dog Walking Orientation.
