We Need You! Volunteer at the Ottawa Humane Society
The Ottawa Humane Society is a not-for-profit organization. We have provided shelter and medical care for thousands of animals since 1888. A lot of what we do for both the animals and the community is made possible by the assistance of our volunteer team.
How do you become an Ottawa Humane Society Volunteer?
- Volunteers must be 18 years and older to be able to volunteer.
- Look on the website or in the Getting Involved brochure. To decide where your experience might best suit the animals at the OHS.
- Find out if there are openings that match your experience, get more information or find out about our orientation dates by e-mailing or phoning 613-725-3166 ext. 231.
- All volunteers must attend a General Orientation
- Dog walkers and foster volunteers must attend an orientation at a later date specific to their program.
- All volunteers must submit a police records check before starting their volunteer duties. Letters for police checks can be emailed to you before your general orientation session.
- A minimum commitment of one year is required to volunteer.
At the General Orientation
- The General Orientation provides you with information pertaining to the OHS.
- It will also give you more details on the programs you are interested in.
- Fill out volunteer application and liability release agreement at the orientation.
We will endevour to find the right volunteer job for you. Each position does require a minimum monthly and hourly commitment. On-the-job-training is offered for all positions.
