Volunteer appreciation survey |

To find more ways to recognize the many contributions volunteers make to our organization, we’ve sent out an online survey to solicit feedback from our helpers in every area. We e-mailed a link to the survey last week. If you didn't receive it, please let us know. Please complete the survey by Sept. 1 — we value your input. Thank you!

Northern Flyers help give animals a second chance |
Did you know that OHS volunteers drive to the airport almost every week to collect dogs flown in from Iqaluit, Nunavut? Thanks to your help, we’re able to provide help for many animals whose options would otherwise be limited.
Last year, our ‘Northern Flyers’ team of volunteers made 35 trips to the airport, giving more than 100 animals a second chance. |
While Ottawa's real summer weather began late this year, the OHS is already thinking about Christmas!
We’re holding our second annual holiday photo contest to capture your pet’s best look. The winning picture will be used on our 2009 holiday greeting card. To enter, send us a festive picture of your pet and tell us in 100 words or less why you think your pet deserves a spot on our card.
The deadline to submit a photo is Friday, Oct. 2, 2009. Entrants must be at least 18 years of age. Check our website for details on rules and to download an entry form.

Our April edition of the OHS Volunteer Connection contained a broken link for the fund to name the volunteer room in our new shelter after Chef Kurt Waldele, one of our most committed volunteers. To learn more about how you can make a gift, click here. |

Brightening Lives loss

The Brightening Lives team lost its golden boy, Angel, this past spring. Angel was a valued part of the OHS visiting group for almost eight years. He’ll be missed for all the love and companionship he brought to our community.
Coin box help needed
We need your help picking up OHS coin boxes around the city. You will need a valid driver’s licence and a car. If you can lend a hand, please
let us know!
Volunteer of the month

Tara Anderson has been volunteering at the OHS for 12 years. She's one of the key people at the walkathon, taking on the important role of team lead for registration. This year, she’ll ensure more than 1,000 pledges are processed in the first two hours of walk day alone! Thanks, Tara, for all the hard work. |
