With another season of programs underway, now is a good time to review policy regarding OHS vehicles.
-
All volunteers are required to provide a copy of their driver’s licence to the OHS.
-
Volunteer drivers must fill the tank if it’s less than a quarter full. Gas cards are normally kept in the glove compartment. Please submit the gas receipt with the vehicle check sheet to your program coordinator at the end of vehicle use.
-
Please leave the vehicle clean. Eating and drinking in the vehicles is not allowed.
-
All animals travelling in the OHS vehicles must be contained in either a carrier, crate or by a seat belt.
-
In case of an accident, see your program coordinator who will assist you in filling out the appropriate forms.

It may seem like summer just ended, but the holidays are right around the corner. That means we’re recruiting volunteers for Santa Pet Pics!
This year’s event(s) will be held on the following weekends:
• Nov. 14–16 at a mall to be determined
• Nov. 21–23 at Westgate Shopping Centre
• Nov. 28–30 at Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre
We’ll need approximately five volunteers (elves) for each day. Shifts are approximately four to seven hours. Contact us if you’re interested!

As one committee and event end, another one begins. We’re already looking ahead to our gala FurBall on March 28, 2009 at the National Gallery. The FurBall Committee is looking for a few new members to help make the event even more successful. If you have experience organizing high-end events or can sell tickets ($225 each), please let us know.

Buster (a.k.a. Oboe at the OHS) loves to learn! This handsome boy was adopted nine months ago, and in that time, he’s already completed four obedience courses. Sweet Buster — who has a bit of a mischievous streak — spent a lot of time at the lake this summer where he met a number of new dog friends. Keep up the good work, Buster!

Foster homes needed
Thank you to all our foster volunteers who have helped us over the summer with our many cats and kittens. We still have lots of cats and kittens for fostering so if you have some space in your home, let us know.
Training
For the dog walkers who have taken the level one training session and are interested in manners and obedience training sessions, the next class will run Oct. 9, 16, 23 and 30. Sign up now!
Rockin’ for the animals
Interested in helping the OHS raise a little money? Trooper will be performing at a free concert for city union workers on Nov. 1 at the Civic Centre. The entertainment will be free, but we’ll be on hand to ask for donations. We need 60 volunteers to help collect coins for the animals. If you would like to rock and roll for a good cause, let us know!
Volunteer of the Month

Elvie has been a long-time foster parent for cats, kittens and the odd dog. She is so devoted to the animals that she turned her house, garden and shed over to the cats. Because of her many years’ experience, Elvie is able to offer special care to cats and kittens in need of lots of medical attention and care. We know how much time and energy this takes and we all thank you. |
