Computerized log-in a go! |
Thank you to Gerald Ewing and Harriet Farmer for developing our new computerized log-in system which allows volunteers to sign in at the beginning of their shifts on two computers in the building. Auto sign in will ensure that we are more efficiently able to keep track of our volunteers' hours and lets us know where we may need more support. Dog walkers and shelter volunteers can use the computer in the volunteer contact room, while the office, Brightening Lives, premises and humane education volunteers can log in on the second floor. Instructions are posted at both locations.
In order to log in, you will need:
1. Your photo ID tag.
2. A unique volunteer ID number.
If you don’t have one of these yet, please e-mail or drop by the volunteer office.

Office support and data entry: We’re currently looking for volunteers for data entry to help us wrap up the walkathon on weekends or Saturday mornings. A high degree of computer accuracy is required. Contact us if you're interested!
Humane education: The next season of our school program begins in October. We’re looking for volunteers to visit local schools to deliver scripted presentations on responsible animal ownership. Commitment is one to two hours every other week, and access to a vehicle is mandatory. For more information on this program, please e-mail us or call 613-725-3166 ext. 231.
There will be a humane education meet and greet for all experienced and new humane education volunteers on Sept. 29 from 5:30 with coffee and treats. Please RSVP by e-mail.

Elaine Read has been a devoted OHS dog walker for over 10 years. She can be seen walking in all kinds of weather, and you can often spot her sitting on a bench outside the shelter enjoying a quiet moment with one of the dogs. The animals truly appreciate the opportunity to enjoy a brief respite from the busy shelter environment. Thank you, Elaine, for your tireless devotion to the animals in our care.

Walkathon thanks
With the walkathon right around the corner, we wanted to send out an advance thank you to the 100+ volunteers who will help out on Sunday. This year’s event is our 20th anniversary and we're looking forward to an exciting and successful day. Thank you for helping make this happen!
Dog walking reminder
Anyone who has not sent in their dog walking schedule is reminded to do so as soon as possible so the fall timetable can be finalized.
