21 Homeless Kittens Arrive at the OHS
June 24, 2024 — Last night, 21 kittens were transferred to the Ottawa Humane Society from Windsor/Essex County Humane Society.
“Our friends in Windsor are facing a capacity crisis and reached out to us,” said Sharon Miko, OHS President & CEO. “Our population is also high in Ottawa, but Windsor was running out of options and we wanted to help. We worked out how we could provide the veterinary treatment the kittens need, and find them new homes as soon as we can.”
It doesn’t take long for kittens at the OHS to find their forever homes. The OHS expects to have the 21 kittens in new, loving homes in less than two weeks.
“Partnership is one of the ways we save more lives,” Miko explained. “Taking in these kittens means Windsor will have more capacity for their animals. Thanks to the support of our caring community, we are in a position to provide for these kittens while remaining available for Ottawa’s animals.”
Miko also credited OHS staff who worked or volunteered extra hours to give the kittens a second chance.
There are more than 40 cats available for adoption at the OHS. The OHS has dropped the adoption fee for cats aged seven years and older to ensure these often overlooked animals may quickly find a new home.
To learn more about adoption, visit the OHS’s website. All donations to the OHS are currently being matched by an anonymous donor. Those who would like to contribute to life-saving work for Ottawa’s animals can make a donation on the OHS’s website.
