Dog Destroys Tens of Thousands of Dollars-Worth of Humane Society Equipment
Oct. 5, 2023 — The Ottawa Humane Society is making an urgent appeal for community support after Boris, a homeless hound, broke an expensive piece of equipment during a routine dental procedure.
Boris was under anesthesia and a poorly timed twitch damaged a sensor, known as an infraorbital plate, that is used to X-ray an animal’s mouth.
“With our equipment broken, we’re facing major delays in providing dental care for the animals,” said Dr. Mary Thompson, OHS Veterinarian. “This also means that animals are going to be staying in our care for longer and our resources will be stretched even further.”
The OHS purchased the sensor 14 years ago for $10,000, and it is expected the cost of the part has increased significantly since.
The OHS is calling for the community’s support to help recoup the cost of this unexpected and unbudgeted expense.
Donations can be made on the OHS’s website.
Photos of Boris, the guilty dog, are available for media use. The OHS would like to note that Boris feels terribly about the incident.
