Life-Saving Event for Ottawa’s Homeless Animals Happening Tonight

Nov. 3, 2023 — Tonight, OHS veterinarians and other staff members will be volunteering their time to provide spay/neuter surgeries and dental procedures for Ottawa’s homeless animals. It’s all a part of Julie’s Light, an annual event to help reduce the Ottawa Humane Society’s surgical waitlist and get animals into forever homes faster.

“Since our first event in 2013, we have provided essential surgeries for more than 150 animals,” said Dr. Shelley Hutchings, OHS chief veterinarian. “Tonight, our goal is to spay/neuter more than 30 pets in need and also complete some vital dental procedures.”

With the OHS’s recent large intake of cats, tonight’s event will make a significant impact on the organization’s capacity to care for more homeless animals.

Julie’s Light is in honour of Julie Laporte, an OHS team member who passed away in 2013, and continues the care and compassion that she showed for Ottawa’s animals.

Those who would like to support this life-saving event and make a difference for Ottawa’s homeless animals are welcome to donate on the OHS’s website.
