Ottawa Humane Society Animal Stolen from Pet Valu on Ogilvie Road, $200 Reward for Tips Leading to a Safe Return

September 16, 2019 — The Ottawa Humane Society (OHS) is appealing to the community to help recover a hairless guinea pig (often referred to as a “skinny pig”) stolen from one of its partner adoption locations. Chip (A224728) was reported stolen from Pet Valu on Ogilvie Rd. Sunday night to both the OHS and the Ottawa Police Service (OPS).

Thefts of OHS animals, though extremely rare, are concerning.

“Our number one priority is the welfare of Ottawa’s animals, but especially the animals in our care.” Said OHS director: operations, Sharon Miko. “We have no way of knowing, and can only assume, that somebody who steals a pet is unaware of how to properly care for that animal and isn’t committed to taking care of him.”

Because this involves the well-being of the animal, the OHS is offering a $200 reward for tips leading to Chip’s safe return.

The OHS is urging the guilty party to come forward and return Chip immediately. Security footage from the Pet Valu location has been made available to the police.

Any information on the whereabouts of Chip should be directed to Sharon Miko at sharonm@ottawahumane.ca or 613-725-3166 ext. 272, or to the OPS at www.ottawapolice.ca/en/contact-us/Online-Reporting.aspx.
