Ottawa Humane Society Urging Pet Owners to Keep Pets Safe During Travel, After Two Dogs Fall Out of Moving Vehicles in One Day
August 9, 2019 — The Ottawa Humane Society (OHS) has taken two injured dogs into its care in one day after both dogs fell out of moving vehicles.
The dogs, a Chihuahua named Peanut and a Siberian Husky named Mia, both jumped out of separate vehicles and sustained serious injuries. Both dogs are currently recovering in OHS care.
“It’s heartbreaking to see two dogs come into our care in the span of 24 hours for something preventable,” said Bruce Roney, OHS President and CEO. “It reinforces the importance of researching and understanding what is and isn’t safe for pets when travelling, even for brief outings.”
The OHS is urging pet owners to consider their pet’s safety when travelling.
“It’s always safest to leave your pet at home when you’re running errands,” said Roney. “If your pet needs to be in the car, make sure the windows aren’t wide open and that the pet is secured in a crate, or with a pet-safe seat belt while travelling.”
While Peanut and Mia recover from their injuries, the OHS is asking for the community’s help paying for their costly medical care.
