"Pet Food Needed" Says Ottawa Humane Society - Weekend Pet Food Drive
Sept. 11, 2024 — This weekend, the Ottawa Humane Society is calling for donations of unopened pet food to support its Emergency Pet Food Bank. Drop off locations are available throughout the city and at the OHS’s Shirley Kearns Memorial Adoption Centre on 245 West Hunt Club Road.
“The need for our pet food bank is increasing,” said Sharon Miko, OHS President & CEO. “We recently expanded the service with pop-up locations to bring pet food where it’s needed most.”
The OHS said the greatest need is unopened bags of dog kibble. Unopened pet food of all kinds, gently used leashes and collars, and other pet supplies in good condition may be rehomed at this weekend’s pet food drive. A list of items the OHS is currently accepting is available on its website.
“A successful pet food drive means more pets will be able to stay with the families who love them,” Miko explained. “Pet affordability is a growing concern in our community. Making sure people can care for their pets means the OHS can always be here for animals who have nowhere else to go.”
Every Thursday, the OHS operates an Emergency Pet Food Bank from its location on 245 West Hunt Club Road. To make pet food accessible throughout the city, the OHS provides funds to the Ottawa Food Bank to distribute pet food in the community.
Pet food drive donors will also receive a special discount on registration to the Wiggle Waggle Walk & Run happening on Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Great Lawn at Lansdowne Park.
