Shelter Dog Celebrates Birthday Party
Aug. 25, 2025 — Ladybug, a six-year-old American bulldog mix, has spent an entire year in the care of the Ottawa Humane Society. After undergoing significant veterinary care and behaviour support, the OHS hopes to find her new home soon.
“Ladybug is a shelter legend,” said Stephen Smith, OHS Senior Manager: Marketing & Communications. “She was found all alone, went through a difficult pregnancy and needed life-saving treatment for a tumour. She is a fighter through and through.”
After being lost and alone, Ladybug also needed help to feel more comfortable around new people and in new situations. The OHS intervention services team and foster families helped her make great progress in feeling more confident in everyday life.
“Between her veterinary and behaviour needs, Ladybug had a long journey to get ready for adoption, but that was only the first step,” added Smith. “The final step of the journey is finding her a forever family.”
The OHS is celebrating Ladybug’s “shelter birthday” this week with the goal of finding her a new home. Anyone interested in adopting Ladybug can learn more about her on the OHS’s website.
