The Only Thing Keeping a Pet Out of the Shelter
As I write this, I can’t stop thinking about how close some pets are to losing a home where they are loved.
At the OHS, we help people who are doing everything they can to take care of their pet. They are stretching dollars, skipping meals and making devastating choices just to keep their pets safe and cared for.
Sometimes, the difference between keeping a pet and losing them comes down to something as simple as a bag of food.
We know that people will go to incredible lengths for their pets, but love alone can’t fill an empty bowl. When that happens, surrendering a beloved pet can start to feel like the only option.
Our Emergency Pet Food Bank is here for those moments. Last winter alone, we provided more than 4,200 lbs of pet food to animals in our community — helping loving families stay together.
It’s only through your help that our pet food bank can be here for the next pet in need. We need your help to fill our pet food bank cupboard by April 13 to prepare for the pets who will need us this spring and summer.
Your donation can be the support that keeps a pet out of the shelter and in the home where they are loved. Your donation will help Ottawa’s pets and their people. You can keep a dog with their senior owner who is on a fixed income, a cat with their person who recently lost their job, a bunny with their person who is navigating a crisis and trying desperately to hold on to their one constant source of comfort.
You can help right now. Donate an unopened bag of pet food before April 13 or give through our online wish list. Encourage your friends, your workplace, your neighbours to do the same.
Together, we can make sure that a temporary hardship doesn’t become a permanent goodbye.
You can be the reason a pet can stay where they are loved.
