Artist Workshop Series
Looking to socialize and learn something new, all while supporting pets in need?
Discover your creative side while connecting with animals and your community! In this hands-on workshop series, local artists lead participants through a fun introduction to their artform, with each workshop featuring a special pet-inspired project to take home. Along the way, participants can socialize, get creative, and learn a little about animal care, behaviour, or body language. Come for the art, stay for the animals, and leave with something uniquely yours!

Felted Cat Toy Workshop
Looking for a fun and hands-on way to support shelter animals while doing something special for your own cat? Join us for a creative workshop where you’ll make enrichment toys for your own cat to enjoy at home.
These handmade felted toys will be created using wool fibres and felting needles, transforming simple materials into durable, engaging toys designed for feline play and enrichment.
As you create, we’ll explore the importance of enrichment for cats, including their natural instincts and behavioural needs, and how play supports their physical and emotional wellbeing.
This workshop will be led in partnership with Wabi Sabi, an independently owned, Ottawa-based yarn and fibre arts store, who will guide you through the materials and toy-making process to create something fun, functional, and completely unique for your cat.
Date: Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026 from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Location: Ottawa Humane Society Education Centre
Cost: $60 (taxes included)

Paint Your Dog Workshop
Join us for an engaging and creative evening at the Ottawa Humane Society, where you’ll paint a watercolour portrait of your dog, all while learning to better understand canine body language!
This guided workshop, led by Jennifer Nicol of Jennifer’s Flying Colours, blends art and animal education. You’ll explore how dogs communicate through posture, expression, and movement, adding a deeper connection to your pet’s personality in your artwork. No painting experience is needed, and all materials will be provided, just bring your enthusiasm!
Jennifer will guide you through the painting process step by step, making it a fun and meaningful experience for all. Whether you’re an art lover, a pet enthusiast, or just looking for a unique workshop, this event is perfect for you!
Spaces are limited, so be sure to register and submit a photo of your pet 14 days in advance. Registrations close 14 days before the event to ensure the artist has time to prepare all materials.

Paint Your Dog Workshop Policies

Due to the nature of this workshop requiring the artist to prepare canvases in advance, cancellation or reschedule requests received within 14 days of the scheduled program are not eligible for a refund or reschedule.

Please wear clothing that you'd be comfortable potentially getting paint on. Water bottles are permitted in the Education Centre.
This specific workshop will be focused on dogs. Please keep an eye out for future art workshops with other featured species.
While we love pets visiting our shelter, this workshop will be pet-free.
